Position: Principal Investigator, Professor of Human Genetics, Consultant Clinical Geneticist

Born & Raised: UK

Education & previous employment: I trained in Medicine in Newcastle, graduating BMedSci in 1990 and MBBS in 1993. Clinical and research postgraduate training was in Newcastle, Leeds and Sheffield, with my PhD undertaken at MMU, Leeds in the laboratory of Prof Geoff Woods on the molecular basis of primary microcephaly. I was elected a member of EMBO in 2013, and as a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2014.

Scientific interests: Nucleic acid mediated inflammation, Ribonucleotide excision repair. Organ and organism size determination. Mendelian neurodevelopmental disorders.

Outside interests: Field Hockey. Triathlon. Science fiction.
